The life of each region largely depends on certain circumstances and historical events. The world famous Vologda butter and milk are now the brands of the Vologda region. This is quite reasonable as Nikolai Vasilyevich Vereshchagin, our fellow countryman, created the technology for producing Vologda butter and a new branch of the national economy - butter and cheese making in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ninety years ago, the Vologda Dairy Plant was built in the city of Vologda, the capital of Vologda Region. Today, it is one of the leading and most efficient milk processing plants in Russia.
The enterprise is constantly developing, improving production technologies and expanding the range of products, winning awards and successfully representing the region at prestigious international and all-Russian specialized exhibitions. But the main thing always remains unchanged - the high quality of our plant’s products and their compliance with the tastes and needs of customers.
We release 198503 items of dairy products packages per day (polypropylene cups, cottage cheese packs, processed and curd cheese packs, pure-pak packs, briquettes, butter packages, etc).

During the Great Patriotic War, when the whole country lived under the slogan «Everything for the front! Everything for victory!» the dairy plant provided hospitals and children's institutions in Vologda with dairy products working in very harsh conditions.
In the early 1950s the country witnessed the process of the post-war renaissance along with the developing of the dairy industry. The plant moved to Poshekhonskoye Highway in 1953 where they celebrated its 20th anniversary. Since then the address of the plant remains the same.

In the 70s of the last century due to the policy of distributing production capacities in certain areas, the plant began to specialize in the production of whole milk products. In 1973 the construction of a new building of the enterprise was completed. As a result, the plant's capacity increased four times. The workshops became more spacious and modernly equipped. The dairy plant switched to a two-shift operation. But the problem of milk processing and production of dairy products to fully satisfy the needs of the population of the city and the Vologda region was not completely solved.

From that moment on, a course was set for regular modernization of the enterprise.
Every day 12700 cows give our plant milk as raw material for non-stop production.
To solve this problem, a progressive structure was organized in the mid-1980s - the Vologda agro-industrial complex, which included the Vologda Dairy Plant. Thanks to the consolidation of financial resources, the agro-industrial complex gradually implemented a development strategy for both agricultural producers and processing enterprises of the Vologda region. In particular, funds were allocated for the construction of an ammonia compressor station and a workshop for the production of cottage cheese and cottage cheese products in VMK.

The car fleet of our plant has 112 vehicles. The milk tankers of the «Vologda Dairy Plant» travel up to 4700 km per day, 14600 km monthly and 1750000 km every year.
With the launch of the new workshop in 1993, milk processing capacity increased by 30 tons per shift.

In April 1994, the first line for filling dairy products in Tetra Rex packages was launched.

In 1995 we started a phased reconstruction of all production areas, modernization of equipment and implementation of modern production technologies.

During the late 90s - early 2000s, the time which was very difficult for agriculture in the Vologda region, the enterprise provided loans to Vologda agricultural producers for the sowing campaign and technical re-equipment using its own funds. Such support allowed farmers not only to save their business, but also to develop, increase milk production, which enabled PC «VMK» to expand the range of dairy products and promote them in the Vologda region and in interregional markets.

46 dynasties of employees are working at the plant. (The biggest one consists of workers belonging to four different generations).
Since 2010, the plant has re-equipped its curd,cottage cheese and butter sections, and installed high-speed modern packaging machines such as MultiPack and PITPAK Smart.

High-performance lines from the Japanese company SHIKOKU have been installed at the bottling sections. They allow bottling dairy products at a speed of up to 14 thousand packages per hour. The new lines are also equipped with various sensors and electronics which allows for precise monitoring of all production parameters.
In 2012, a complete reconstruction of the cheese section was carried out. We modernized presses , cheese ripening chambers , a machine for washing moulds. New programmable cheese makers and a moulding apparatus were installed.

In 2015 we installed a cup stacking robot and four years later a glazed curd stacking robot was installed at «VMK», both developed specifically for our plant.

Since that time the plant has completely switched to automated control systems over dairy production processes. The operator monitors the entire technological chain - from milk acceptance to finished product release using the specified computer software and the automated SCADA system.
In 2022 a new line for the production of glazed curds was put into operation. Its productivity is significantly higher than that of the previous equipment.

In the spring of 2023 a new automated line for the production of ultra-pasteurized products from the Swedish company TetraPak was launched at the Vologda Dairy Plant. Thanks to this the enterprise began producing milk, «Vologosha» milkshakes and «Bodrost» whey drinks with long shelf lives (from six months to a year). Despite the extended shelf life ultra-pasteurized products preserve all their beneficial properties.

The new line made it possible to expand sales markets by expanding to distant regions of Russia and a number of foreign countries. Consumers have lots of advantages: an increased volume of favorite products thanks to a new package and possibility to take them away without a fridge.
Currently our plant produce more than 100 items of dairy products. Such brands as «Vologzhanka», «Vologosha», «Bodrost» are known throughout the country. The hallmark and real pride of the plant is «Vologda» butter, awarded many gold medals and honorary diplomas at the most prestigious exhibitions.
The key to the successful work of the enterprise is its highly professional and unique team. The employees carry out significant work on technical re-equipment, production of high-quality products and their timely sale. Many of them have been awarded government awards, certificates of the regional government and by the mayor of the city.

Modernization of production facilities, preservation of dairy production traditions, competent policy of the enterprise management, hard work and responsibility of employees allow the "Vologda Dairy Plant" to remain one of the leaders in the dairy industry.
If we line up all the products our plant produce during a year it will be as long as the earth’s equator.

- Glazed curd with cocoa and strawberry - a favorite mix of flavors,
- Ultra-pasteurized milk «Vologzhanka»,
- Ultra-pasteurized milkshakes «Vologosha»,
- Ultra-pasteurized whey drinks «Bodrost» - large packaging with a lid, convenient to take away,
- Whey drink «Bodrost» with a cherry flavor in a family package which is a top sales product,
- Butter «For sandwiches» - with reduced milk fat content which is made according to GOST.
